• What data do I need in my Excel spreadsheet to make a map?

You only need two columns of data. The first is a location column. A location can be a full address (123 Main Street, AnyCity, CA 99999) or a city, state pair or a zip code. The second column is called a layer. A layer is simply a way to group locations. A mapset might have two layers: 'Gas Stations with Diesel', 'Gas Stations no Diesel'
